Introducing Switch & Match, an IW take on the switch contest. Mix, match, and socially switch your way to glory!

Format:

Prelims:

• 3 songs, approximately 1 minute each. Each song is an all-skate.
• You will be assigned a new partner for each round. Rotations will be based on random number selection. Everybody rotates as if on a racetrack.
• 12 finalists will be tapped in to the final round.
• Music will be provided by DJ.

Finals:

• 1 rotation to assign partners
• 2 songs: warm-up, then phrase battle (32 bars per couple, twice through, ending in an all skate).
• Judged individually

Open to those that are new to competition or do not regularly place in regional Lindy Hop competitions. This contest pairs you with random partners in the preliminary rounds. Finalists will be randomly paired with a professional dancer!

Format:

• All skate heats, 3 songs each heat.
• 6 leaders and 6 followers will advance to the next round. 2 alternate leaders and 2 alternate followers will also be chosen in the event of final round no-shows.
• Music will be provided by DJ.
• 3 Tempo: 170 – 150 – 180 BPM

Finals:

• The top 6 Leaders & 6 Followers will be paired with a teacher.
• There will be 4 all skate heats with 3 couples in each heat.
• Each heat will dance one song for 1:30.
• Tempo: 160 BPM
• Music will be provided by DJ.
• Judges will place both Leaders & Followers 1st-6th

The All-Star Mix & Match is specifically tailored to competitors that regularly place in regional Lindy Hop competitions. This division is not intended for those new to competition. Partners will be randomly drawn. Finalists will be randomly paired and will dance to the Jonathan Stout Orchestra!

• The top 6 leaders & 6 followers will be randomly paired ahead of time and judged together.
• Couples will dance to 3 songs; 1 All skate warm up, 1 spotlight song, and 1 final all skate.
• Each spotlight will be 2 choruses (16-8s x2).
• Tempo: 170 BPM
• This round will be danced to live music.

Enjoy this winner take all Lindy Hop contest format that showcases throw-down swing outs and every trick you can imagine! This year we are proud to announce that Inspiration Weekend’s Lindy Hop Tournament is the California qualifier for the Savoy Cup in France! The winner of the Lindy Hop Tournament will get a spot in the Champions Cup contest at Savoy Cup, a pass to the event, and $400/couple to spend on the travel to France.

Format:

Round 1 – Prelims:

• All Skate heats, 3 songs each heat.
• Music will be provided by DJ.
• 3 Tempos: 190 – 210 – 230 BPM
• 8 couples will be selected to compete in the Knockout Round.
• 2 alternate couple selections will also be made in the event of 2nd round no-shows.

Round 2 – Knockout Round:

• Spotlight duel format. From the 8 couples that made it to the knockout round, 2 couples at a time will compete head-to-head for the judges’ favor. The judges will select by pointing at their choice at the end of each duel – majority rules. The winners of each duel advance to round 3.
• This round will be danced to live music.
• Duration/Tempos: 16 – 8’s (32 bars) at 220 BPM.

Round 3 – Semi-Finals and Finals:

• Spotlight duel format. From the top 4 couples that advanced to the knockout round, 2 couples at a time will compete head-to-head for the judges’ favor. The judges will select by pointing their fingers at their choice at the end of each duel – majority rules. The winners of each duel advance to the final round. The finals are also judged the same way. Final round winners take all! This contest only offers prizes to the victors.
• This round will be danced to live music.
• Semi-finals Duration/Tempos: 16 – 8’s (32 bars) at 230 BPM.
• Finals Duration/Tempos: the final 2 couples will each get:
  16 – 8’s (32 bars)
  8 – 8’s (16 bars)
  8 – 8’s (16 bars)
  All skate at 230 BPM

In an attempt to make serious competition more accessible to social dancers we are hosting The 30 Second Showcase. A showcase competition is when a couple performs a routine to a song of their choice. So find a partner and create a jammin’ 30 – 45 second routine with your best Lindy Hop, Solo Jazz, Balboa, Shag, or Charleston. We don’t care about gender, or roles, just no more than 2 dancers should be on the floor during each performance. You will find that it goes very quickly. You will perform it in front of everyone at the dance! You can either edit your music or plan a fade at 30 – 45 seconds.
