Harvest Moon Lindy Hop Contest
Prelims: Friday Night 11pm at ATOMIC Irvine
Finals: Saturday Night 9:45pm Woman’s’ Club
The Harvest Moon Ball Lindy Hop Championships was the most significant contest in New York from 1935 – 1974. Our contest will use the following characteristics taken from this famous contest. Couples will dance in heats to fast big band music (220bpm+). Crowd reaction will be taken into account for judging. Routine snippets are encouraged but should be malleable to hit the music. Showmanship will be very important so that you get noticed. Only amateurs can compete. At IW you are considered a Pro if you make more than 50% of your income by swing dancing. (Professional lindy hoppers should compete in 30 Sec. Showcase and Pro-Am Jack and Jill.)

Finalists will be randomly paired with a partner and get 24 hours to collaborate before the contest final! Contest is limited to 60 Jacks and 60 Jills.
30 Second Showcase
Saturday Night at 10:45pm
In an attempt to make serious competition more accessible to social dancers we are hosting The 30 Second Showcase. A showcase competition is when a couple performs a routine to a song of their choice. So find a partner and create a jammin’ 30 – 45 second routine of your favorite lindy hop. You will find that it goes very quickly. You will showcase it in front of everyone at the dance! You can either edit your music or plan a fade at 30 – 45 seconds. Email your music to DJ@inspirationweekend.com by 5pm Saturday March 3rd.

Open to the 1st 4 teams that email shesha@atomicballroom.com and claim their spot. All team members need a competition pass, however there is no competition fee. 3 couples/6 people minimum. There is no maximum. Go big.
Format: DJ will play 3 songs. Each team will get to enter the circle in random order and do whatever they want for about 30-45 seconds based on your level of kick-assary. You will go out 3 times, 1 each song. Consider having a group chorus, a 1 couple lindy hop, a duet, and some interesting formation thing. You will chose what to put out there based on how you will one up the team that went before.
At the end of the battle the finale will be a “Make Frankie Proud” Trick Off. You will get 3 outs. You have to dance out, do 1 trick or combo, and dance off, on beat. Each out will be only four 8 counts.
